To initiate the A Challenge From Froakie Side Mission in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, players will need to find a construction worker named Surv.
Surv can be located in the Jaune District, standing by the scaffolding on North Boulevard. The exact map location has been referenced in the screenshot below to help point you in the right direction.
Once you reach this location, speak to Surv, and he will reveal that the nearby Froakie likes to challenge passersby to compete in the scaffolding course. During the scaffolding course, players must race to reach the top of the structure where Froakie waits before time runs out.
How to Complete the First Scaffolding Course For Froakie
Once you’re ready to attempt the scaffolding course, speak to Surv again to initiate the challenge. The first run is relatively simple and involves climbing up the ladder, then dropping down onto the platform underneath, before climbing up the second ladder to reach the top.
After completing this course, Surv will announce that you’re not quite done with the challenge yet, and that he has a second course for you to complete.
However, you do not need to rush to this immediately if you do not want to. Surv and Froakie will move to the next location and wait for you, so feel free to take a break and come back to the Side Mission later.

The second course introduces narrow planks that you will need to walk across to reach the next wooden platform and move to the top of the course, where Froakie awaits. You have a whole forty seconds to complete this course, so as long as you take your time going steady on these planks of wood, then you should be fine.
As you may have assumed, when you manage to complete this second scaffolding course, Surv and Froakie will now reveal there is just one final course that you must participate in. However, this one takes a bit more of a journey to get to, so further details have been explained below.
How to Complete the Third Scaffolding Course For Froakie
The third scaffolding course is set up in the Rouge District, on North Boulevard, not far from the Pokemon Center. To get there as quickly as possible, it’s easiest to just fast-travel to the Pokemon Center itself and then run over. The exact map location has been pinpointed below.
Once again you must speak with Surv to begin the course. This final course is set on a 50 second time limit, and combines elements of the previous two to create the most difficult of the three. During this one, you’ll need to balance, drop, and roll your way to the top.
- Climb up the ladder, and then dash-roll onto across the gap onto the platform below, on the other side.
- Now, climb up the ladder on this platform and cross the wooden plank to the other side.
- Head across the second plank to the left and then dash-roll onto the next platform below.
- Lastly, cross the last wooden plank to the other side, where Froakie awaits.
After this, Surv and Froakie will be very impressed with your efforts – so much so that Froakie takes an interest in you and wants to stick around. As of this moment, you will officially obtain this very Froakie as one of the many Pokemon you will be able to use in your playthrough.
