This boss is a little tricky, as the game makes the fight available at a time when you might not have the skills to handle it. Still, we are here to help guide you through it, so we have all the information necessary to beat Frantz the Dejected Assailant for yourself.

Frantz the Dejected Assailant Problem

There is a pretty direct issue with this boss, and that has to do with when this fight becomes available. After you’ve fought side by side with Noah throughout the early hours of the game, you end up at the top of the Forma Storage Tower, while he goes down. As you have information from the present, you know he dies.

In discussing things with Lou, you decide to save Noah, but Lavinia pulls you back to the present and warns you about messing with history. After that cutscene, you are given the option to return to the tower and actually go save Noah.

You are free to do so, but the fight likely won’t go how you think. At the time of the tower, you have fought only three bosses and still have a pretty low level and stats. In this present state, you’ll likely lose to Frantz. It’s clear you aren’t intended to beat Frantz yet, so continue with the story and return later. The option to save Noah won’t vanish.

Beating Frantz the Dejected Assailant

When I finally won this fight, I was level 27 with a Rank-C Blood Code. This gave me the stats to actually survive, and the fight felt almost too easy.

The main attack you’ll want to watch for is when Frantz jumps into the air to fire three bullets at you. This attack is hard to dodge and will likely wipe out your shield, leaving you vulnerable. I don’t think I’m skilled enough to say you can win this fight without getting hit, just do your best to land all your hits while he is distracted by Noah.

Once half of Frantz’s health bar is gone, a cutscene will trigger, making it seem like the fight is over and you and Noah have won. This is a fake-out, and it just means you’re fighting the first boss of the game with a second phase.

This new form will hold the head out, using it as a Medusa Head-esque weapon capable of dealing aura-like attacks. One of such has him holding it out as purple waves emanate from the head. This worked against him, however, as I had used a Weapon Forma to get in close as he was setting it up, and it allowed me to deal free damage to him.

I have no actual idea what that attack is supposed to do, I assume petrify, but I do know it has a pretty direct weakspot if you get in close before it sets it off. It has a pretty obvious wind-up with him holding the head out. I didn’t expect to win the fight as easily as I did, so maybe reaching level 27 is overdoing it a little.

For winning the fight, you get 11,000 Haze, and Noah gives you his summoning token, which will let you partner up with him in the present or past. Going back to the ground floor of the tower will play a cutscene as the statue of Noah and Frantz disappears and is replaced by a chest containing the Shield of Stupor Defensive Forma.

At this point, you have now completed the most consequential boss fight in Code Vein 2, with much more to come.
