When do Cockroaches Appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

While you can find cockroaches crawling around your island from time to time outside, you’ll be surprised that you can also find them inside your home. But how did these cockroaches even get inside? Well, if you haven’t been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for several weeks, months, or even years and have just returned for the Version 3.0 update, then that’s the reason why.

Cockroaches appear if you haven’t played in a very long time in-game. A sign of them appearing is that upon logging in-game, your character will have bed hair and will shake it off. But as you enter your home, you’ll find a cockroach crawling around.

While you can let the cockroaches live rent-free in your home. This might affect your Happy Home Academy rating. Besides that, having cockroaches will discourage your villagers from visiting your home, and upon seeing them, they will leave immediately.
Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get Rid of Cockroaches in Your Home

To get rid of cockroaches in your Animal Crossing: New Horizons home, you simply have to squish them with your player character inside your house. You can’t use a net to remove them like how you catch them outside.
Have your character chase the crawling cockroach until they squish it. You’ll find a small smoke animation that indicates that the cockroach has been squished. This is then followed by a tiny ghost animation floating up after the cockroach is squished.

Keep in mind, however, that squishing that one cockroach doesn’t mean you’ve solved the infestation in your house. Check the other rooms in your home and find other cockroaches. There could be a maximum of two cockroaches in one room. This is dependent on how long you’ve been gone from the game.
After you’ve ridden all the cockroaches in your home, you’ll get your player character’s animation of a victory cheer that says, “All the pesky cockroaches are GONE! I feel so much better now.”

As you’ve completed these steps, you’ve fully cleared and gotten rid of all the cockroaches in your home, avoiding penalties from Happy Home Academy and alleviating your villagers’ disgust from your home. Hopefully, with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 3.0 update, more players will be back into playing regularly and avoiding having cockroaches in their happy homes.
