Marvel Rivals players have noticed Deadpool appears to be messing with them in-game, even before he’s officially released. During the 2025 Game Awards, the Marvel Rivals team revealed that both Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone would be the next heroes to arrive in Season 6, and the first heroes of 2026. However, it seems Deadpool is up to some mischief in the meantime, mysteriously changing hero roles within the roster!
Deadpool Sneakily Swaps From Duelist to Vanguard in Latest Marvel Rivals Update

Following the announcement of Deadpool at The Game Awards, he was added to the in-game character roster with the launch of Season 5.5, which also marked Rogue’s arrival. This in itself was interesting, as no other hero has appeared early on the roster prior to their release. But if anyone was going to switch things up, it would be Deadpool, wouldn’t it?
At this point in time, players began to eagerly look forward to the arrival of Deadpool on the Duelist role, as indicated by the symbol he was categorized under in the hero roster.

In the latest Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 patch, which introduced the new series of winter holiday skins to the game, Deadpool has spontaneously swapped roles from Duelist to Vanguard. In other words, Deadpool is completely trolling the Marvel Rivals community leading up to his release. NetEase had never confirmed a prior character role so early on, so this kind of proves that nothing is set in stone for the upcoming addition.
However, some Marvel Rivals players think this could be a hint towards new, fun directions in which the devs may choose to take a character such as Deadpool. For example, one fun fan theory is that he may be the first/only character to be playable on all three roles, with slightly different movesets for each one. Another concept involves Deadpool simply ‘filling’ his role depending on the rest of the team composition.
These are certainly fun ideas to consider, and would bring some of that fourth wall-breaking shenanigans the character is so well known for to the game. If the devs actually choose to do anything exciting or fancy with Deadpool’s release, fans will just have to sit tight and keep their eyes peeled to see if any leaks or news pop up.
