Sony launched the PS5 in 2020 and followed up with the PS5 Pro in 2024. Both consoles remain quite popular today, offering current-generation gaming experiences with features like ray-tracing, 60FPS gameplay, and more.

However, the PS5 family experience has gradually become more expensive. Both the PS5 and PS5 Pro now cost more than they did at release, and with Sony’s latest update, the prices are once again set to increase.

PS5 Pro And PS5 Prices Are Going Up

PS5 Pro

Sony has officially announced new pricing for the consoles in the US and the UK. Mentioned below are the new prices, which will take effect from April 2, 2026.

  • PS5 $649.99/ £569.99
  • PS5 Digital $599.99/ £519.99
  • PS5 Pro $899.99/ £789.99

The most heavily impacted of the three is the PS5 Pro, which has seen its price increase by a whopping $150 over the previous $749.99 MSRP.

However, this is also not the first time the PS5 Pro’s price has gone up. The console suffered a small price increase earlier last year, which brought the MSRP up by $50.

Increasing PlayStation 5 Prices

PS5 Consoles

What the new prices mean for general consumers is that the PlayStation 5 family of consoles proved to be a better investment for those who jumped into the ecosystem earlier during the generation.

For instance, the PS5 Pro now costs nearly 30% more than it did at launch in 2024 since the console’s price has gone up from $699.99 to $899.99.

The PS5 Disc Edition, which launched at an MSRP of $499.99, has seen a similar 30% price hike, bringing the cost up to $649.99.

Why Sony Is Increasing Prices

Sony did not provide a specific reason for the latest price jump, but the current market conditions are not particularly hard to read.

For starters, the ongoing memory demand for AI-based workloads has led to shortages and price hikes in the cost of components like RAM and SSDs.

Elsewhere, the persisting global inflation has put pressure on gaming giants like Sony. Unfortunately, this means that this may not be the last of the PS5’s price jumps before the PS6 arrives.
