Throughout your journey in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake, you will grow a collection of different films and filters. The Camera Obscura is the center of this game’s combat, and other than camera upgrades, choosing the right film to use and filter to turn on can change everything. We’ll look at the best films and filters to use in Fatal Frame 2 Remake.

Best film types to use in Fatal Frame 2 Remake

Before we decide on the best film type to use, here’s a breakdown of all the films you can use in Fatal Frame 2 Remake:

Film TypeReload SpeedPowerRarity
Type-07SlowWeakUnlimited
Type-14MediumMediumCommon
Type-61MediumStrongUncommon
Type-90FastStrongRare
Type-00SlowStrongestVery Rare

Based on the stats, Type-90 is the best film type to use overall. This doesn’t mean you should use it all the time, as it’s rare, but you can already start by holding a good amount at one time. It has a fast reload time and strong exorcism power, making it my go-to film type.

In comparison, something like Type-61 is nearly as strong, but it doesn’t appear often and doesn’t have the best loading time. Type-14 is weaker in power, and also has an average-paced reload time, but it’s more common to find.

Type-00 is very rare, so you should only use it in boss fights because it has incredibly strong exorcism power. Meanwhile, you have an infinite amount of Type-07 film, but due to it being unlimited, it has a slow reload speed and is weak in power.

Best filters in Fatal Frame 2 Remake

While there are only three different filters in Fatal Frame 2 Remake, they each have a different use:

FilterCombat UseExploration UseSpecial Shot
ParaceptualLong RangeUncovers vanishing traces from spiritsBlind: Temporarily blinds wraiths
ExposureHigh AttackRestores vanished items and spiritsSlow: Temporarily slows wraiths
RadiantFast ReloadUnlocks bloody handprint seals holding items insidePurge: Massive damage at close range

Although each filter is useful in its own way, the Exposure Filter is the best when it comes to combat. It gives you a higher attack power, while also allowing you to slow wraiths with its Special Shot. This can make it easier to run out of the way of a fast-moving wraith.

Otherwise, if you’re someone who’d rather take wraiths out in the shadows, having the long range with the Paraceptual filter may be your go-to choice. Radiant can also be good for both combat and exploration, as it allows you to unseal those bloody handprint doors hiding items behind them.
