Denis Villeneuve’s take on the legendary Frank Herbert franchise is coming to its promised end with Dune: Part Three. While the two first films covered the titular Dune, the first book in Herbert’s franchise, Part Three doesn’t.

The third Dune Villeneuve movie will mostly cover the events that unfold in Dune: Messiah, the second book in the franchise. The promised plan is to follow Paul Atreides’ story to its end, capping the trilogy.

Release Date

Dune: Part Three is coming to a theater near you on December 18, 2026. It comes less than two years following the release of Dune: Part Two, and a little over five years after the original Dune: Part One.

If the two previous entries in the trilogy were any indication, Part Three should stick around in cinemas for a while, and additional screenings of the first two parts are likely.

Trailer

Warner Bros released the first look at Dune: Part Three via a 2:29min trailer. Watch it below:

We see a different looking Paul Atreides reminiscing on his own mortality and on his offspring with Chani. The movie will feature a considerable time-jump at some point since the actor playing their son is 17 years old.

The trailer highlights a new distinct song and a return of the phenomenal visuals that have been the highlight of the trilogy thus far. It also gives us a look at the new additions to the star-studded cast.

Anya Taylor-Joy joins the cast to play Alia Atreides, Paul’s sister; Robert Pattinson is Scytale, the Dune: Messiah’s antagonist; Ida Brooke and Nakoa-Wolf Momoa (Jason Momoa’s son) play Ghanima and Leto II, respectively, Paul and Chani’s children.
