It looks like that fantasy boom is entering its second phase. After the eras of The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, the public is now ready. The studios are no longer experimenting, they invest in intellectual property. The source materials are numerous, and for every adaptation that reaches production, several remain suspended.

This tracker follows some of the biggest fantasy book adaptations currently in the pipeline for film and television.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew (C.S. Lewis)

A prequel to the Narnia saga, this story explores the creation of Narnia itself and the origin of the White Witch.
What we know:
Netflix has scheduled an IMAX theatrical release for November 26, 2026, followed by a Christmas-season streaming window. This marks the first major step in Netflix’s planned Narnia relaunch.

Children of Blood and Bone (Tomi Adeyemi)

Set in a West African–inspired fantasy world, the novel follows a young woman fighting to restore magic to a kingdom that violently suppressed it.
What we know:

Eragon — The Inheritance Cycle (Christopher Paolini)

A farm boy discovers a dragon egg and becomes entangled in a rebellion against a tyrannical empire.
What we know:
Disney+ has added Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing to the creative team. Christopher Paolini is involved in development. This appears positioned as a faithful reboot after the 2006 film adaptation.

Fourth Wing — The Empyrean (Rebecca Yarros)

What it’s about:
A brutal military academy trains dragon riders, where survival depends as much on political maneuvering and romance as combat.
What we know:
Amazon MGM and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society are developing the project. Meredith Averill has been named showrunner. This is one of the clearest signals of the romantasy boom moving to screen.

The Stormlight Archive (Brandon Sanderson)

Newly acquired, in development

What it’s about:
An epic, multi-POV saga set on a storm-ravaged world where ancient powers are reawakening and fractured knights must confront both war and mythology.
What we know:
Apple has acquired rights to develop both Stormlight and Mistborn. Reporting clarifies that the deal concerns these specific properties, not necessarily the entire Cosmere.

The Dark Tower (Stephen King)

What it’s about:
A genre-blending epic that follows gunslinger Roland Deschain across parallel worlds in pursuit of the mysterious Dark Tower.
What we know:

Assistant to the Villain (Hannah Nicole Maehrer)
