Last Tuesday, Nigerian-American singer-songwriter Annahstasia was in Tokyo playing at the WWW in Shibuya. This Saturday she started her Australia & New Zealand tour, and after having toured to promote her debut album “Tether” last year, she spent much of her Perth Fest show playing unreleased songs. 

What were the unreleased songs?

Annahstasia’s upcoming “Live at Glasshaus” Vinyl will include all three new songs, and two have just been released on spotify as live versions: 

“Satisfy Me”

“Take Care of Me”

The last unreleased song was “Garden“, which she said will only be available via the upcoming vinyl (which ships on March 13th).

Annahstasia Live at The Embassy for Perth Fest Review

★★★★★ Dressed conservatively in a light pink abaya, Annahstasia stepped onto the stage alone and with only a guitar. Total minimalism in the packed cabaret theatre and parts of the crowd were uncertain, maybe even a little disappointed by this lack of fanfare. The moment she began to sing, all concerns faded, it was an immediate reverence from the crowd, total attention, completely mesmerised.

Like magic, her voice is far richer and deeper than you would imagine from looking at her. Between songs, she would share a story about the song, or say something sweet with a grin, but she maintained a poise and knowing of such maturity, channeling a Nina Simone or Maya Angelou with the few words she said. It was, without hyperbole, the best music event I’ve been to, and it was beautifully capped off with the whole audience breaking their awed silence to sing the final refrain of Overflow.
