Starsand Island is a cute new life simulator made by Seed Sparkle Lab. The open-world cosy game combines elements of classic farming sims with sandbox titles to offer all kinds of gameplay possibilities. Whether you want to rear the cutest creatures on the island, drive around town on a chic motorbike, or get straight down to romancing your new neighbours, Starsand Island has you covered.
One thing that Starsand Island doesn’t have completely covered yet is the ability to use mods, custom content, and other community-made integrations in-game. This has gained a lot of attention from the simulator’s community, with fans wondering if support for mods will be added further down the line, or after the game leaves early access.
Modding has become part and parcel of most life simulators, sandbox games, and, since the emergence of Stardew Valley, even many farming simulators. So, it’s not surprising that the community has questions around the future of Starsand Island when it comes to mods and custom content. Thankfully, a recent update shared by the developers has sought to clear things up.
Can you use mods and custom content in Starsand Island?

At the time of writing, you can’t use any mods or custom content with Starsand Island. However, the developers have confirmed that this won’t always be the case.
In fact, according to a recent update shared by the developers, we won’t have to wait that long at all before we can load up our saves with whatever weird and wonderful additions the community can come up with.
When will mods be added to Starsand Island?

Seed Sparkle Lab shared a roadmap to the Starsand Island Steam page on February 13th to provide an insight into what new features we can expect during the simulator’s early access period. One of the key additions mentioned is the introduction of mods and other creator tools.
They haven’t shared an exact date for the update just yet, but modding functionality is scheduled to come to Starsand Island in May 2026. The update on their Steam page read:
“May 2026
Initially introduce MOD support and provide basic creator tools.
Enable sharing through the Workshop, allowing players to enrich the warm and creative content ecosystem of Starsand Island together.”
The ‘Workshop’ in question refers to Steam Workshop, a platform that allows users to share mods and custom content for compatible games with one another. This was confirmed in another post shared by Starsand Island’s creators, which references Steam Workshop being opened up after the game’s full release post-early access.
So far, Seed Sparkle Lab hasn’t publicly elaborated on exactly what those basic creator tools will look like. Luckily, though, we won’t have to wait very long to find out more.
Will mods be available for Starsand Island on console?

Right now, Seed Sparkle Lab has only referenced mods being added to the game’s Steam release. That means the Xbox One release hasn’t been mentioned yet.
Mods for console releases are much rarer than they are for their PC counterparts, but not unheard of. A handful of Xbox One games offer support for mods, including Cities: Skylines, Fallout 4, and a handful of Farming Simulator titles. With that in mind, you never know what’s on Starsand Island’s horizon.
Are the Starsand Island devs mod-friendly?

Based on their early access update, yes! But before Seed Sparkle Lab clarified its stance on mods in Starsand Island, the community seemed concerned that this might not be the case.
The community’s concerns came from the inclusion of an anti-cheat system and select clauses in the end-user license agreement (EULA). For context, anti-cheat systems can cause mods to crash or malfunction in some cases.
However, it was confirmed in the official Starsand Island Discord server by an admin that the anti-cheat system was removed, and the user agreement was amended following community feedback:
“We did have it, but we listened to everyone‘s feedback. We have updated our User Agreement and officially removed the anti-cheat system from the game. We want to make sure our players feel comfortable and heard.”
This has since been confirmed and clarified by Seed Sparkle Lab on Steam. The post also clarified that Starsand Island doesn’t have microtransactions or in-game purchases – in turn, addressing another concern shared by fans.
Some users were concerned that you might not be able to use custom content in Starsand Island, specifically so that new items could be hidden behind a paywall. Luckily, those concerns don’t appear to be founded in this case, as Seed Sparkle Lab confirmed that new items added via the Red Note collaboration will be made available through “in-game themed event tasks” instead of costing real-world currency.
