The Overwatch Spotlight announcement in February 2026 revealed some pretty significant changes both to the game and the lore. Plus, to kick these announcements off, an epic animated short was uncovered featuring Vendetta’s rise to power. In this short, we see her visiting Talon headquarters, defeating Doomfist in battle, and taking over the organization as its new ruthless leader.
However, in a new update via a follow-up comic that has now been released, it seems three of Talon’s most notable individuals have called it quits in retaliation – Sombra, Widowmaker, and Reaper. Let’s take a look at what their exit from Talon means and where they could go next.
Sombra, Widowmaker, & Reaper Have Officially Abandoned Talon – What’s Next For Them in Overwatch?

With Vendetta stepping into power, one of the burning questions on many fans minds was simply ‘what does that mean for each Talon member, moving forward?’. After all, this is quite the shake-up, so it’s no surprise that perhaps not everyone will be so willing to just accept Vendetta as their new leader.
Well, fans now have a definitive answer – and as you expected, no, not everyone has been willing to go along with Vendetta’s ideals. Reaper, Widowmaker, and Sombra, specifically, have all stepped away from the Talon organization following the fall of Doomfist.
This has been confirmed by Moira in the recently released follow-up story time/comic, titled “Vengeance Comes”. In the panel seen below, Moira makes a comment about how three of their most formidable agents are walking from the organization following disagreements with Vendetta’s leadership. Widowmaker, Reaper, and Sombra’s holograms can also be seen behind her. In other words, it could not be clearer. They’ve made a prompt exit from Talon.

Honestly, not many people are shocked that Reaper has gone and gotten himself the heck out of there, considering he is the one responsible for the death of Vendetta’s father.
However, while it’s also not a big shock that if anyone else were to go, it’s Widowmaker and Sombra. However, the fact that all three of these characters have made an exit is absolutely massive and opens up so many doors for their future in Overwatch.
Interestingly enough, it seems Widowmaker and Sombra may have formed quite a stable friendship (or at the very least, trust) with one another. Right as Vendetta threw Doomfist off the cliff, both Widowmaker and Sombra immediately just looked at each other with the faces captured in the screenshot below – as if they’re silently working out their exit plan, right then and there.

What Could Be Next in Store For Widowmaker, Sombra, and Reaper as ex-Talon Agents?

Now that we know that these heroes have exited from Talon, this pretty much introduces a clean slate for where they could go next, and there’s a few different directions in how could all play out.
Reaper, for example, made a prompt exit as he is tied to the death of Vendetta’s father. We all know that Reaper used to be known as Gabriel Reyes, the heroic Overwatch hero. Could Reaper perhaps come full circle and complete a journey from Overwatch agent < Blackwatch agent < Talon < back to Overwatch?

Considering how many more heroes Overwatch seems to have lost to Talon (Freja and Emre are two more recent examples we know of), it might actually be a nice spin to see Reaper rejoin his old allies and fight on the side of the heroes again. Perhaps Mercy can even use some of her medical developments to help reverse some of the damage Moira has caused to his body.
Alternatively, despite Doom being gone from Talon, we haven’t actually seen him die. Therefore, his death is unconfirmed. As many Doomfist enthusiasts have pointed out, he seemed to fold quite easily in combat to Vendetta during the fight, compared to previous scenes in which he has been showcased.

Some fans also believe he intentionally let her win, as he knew she was gunning for Talon. We know Doomfist is intelligent as well as powerful, so there’s the possibility that this is all some big cover to let Doom slip into the shadows and return later on. And if anyone were to play a part in tracking him down and getting him back in the brawl, my money would be on Reaper.
When it comes to Widowmaker, there’s a lot of room to now explore more developments with her character. We know Talon took advantage of him as Amelie Lacroix and turned her into the cold-blooded assassin known as Widowmaker. With her walking away from them, it feels like Widow is finally reclaiming some of her own freedom.

Furthermore, there have been hints in her voice interactions that her repressed emotions have been starting to return. In certain interactions, she can be heard pondering/mourning her dead husband, while in another, Moira threatens her with “Is that an emotion I detect, Lacroix?”
It would be really satisfying to see Widowmaker return from being the ‘Widowmaker’ assassin, and join forces with Overwatch as Amelie Lacroix – not just as an acquaintance/spouse of someone within the organization, but as a talented sniper. There’s potential for Mercy to look into the modifications Moira placed on her and perhaps use her abilities to restore the rest of Widowmaker’s humanity.

Additionally, Widowmaker/Amelie Lacroix also has a nasty history with Ana Amari that resulted in the loss of the latter’s eye. It would be very interesting to see Ana’s reaction to Amelie leaving Talon and potentially working with Overwatch. There aren’t many other places she could go, in theory. It doesn’t make sense for her to end up with Null Sector, and then the Junkers, Vishkar, and the Deadlock Gang all now have ties with Talon.
Of course, there’s also potential that Widow takes on a more deadly lone wolf approach for a little while as she figures out who she can trust at this time. Or, maybe she and Sombra will even end up working together (with or without reaper) – after all, they seem to have been on the same page the moment Doomfist was defeated, and it was all said with a mere look towards one another.
Lastly, we know that Sombra has always been a bit of a double agent to Talon. Sure, she’s played her part, but she’s ultimately only looking out for herself. On multiple occasions we’ve seen her manipulate Talon missions to achieve some kind of ulterior motive or personal goals. So, it’s clear that she wanted something from Talon while Doomfist was in power, but with the change in power, her time for a stealthy exit has come.

Sombra leaving Talon is perhaps the most exciting for the bunch. We know Sombra has been plotting something for a while, or that she simply knows so much more than what she lets on. Now seems like the perfect time for Sombra to end up making some kind of play.
In addition to this, the Spotlight announced that throughout the year, some of the older Overwatch heroes would be getting reworks. There is a high possibility that Sombra is first on this hypothetical ‘rework’ list. Not only has her kit been a constant source of community frustration and backlash, but since hero bans were released, she’s become largely unplayable in Competitive due to her high ban rate.

With so little opportunity to play the hero, it seems a rework of her DPS kit, or perhaps even a more significant move into another role or sub-role, could be a fresh and exciting change. Perhaps the ‘Mirrorwatch’ abilities could play a potential part in any new concepts.
Maybe she and the others will find a way to contact Baptiste and team up as a Talon vigilante squad. The possibilities are literally endless, we’ll just have to wait and see. All we can hope is that she comes back to break Sigma out of Talon’s ‘care’, as she was one of, if not the only characters in the organization to genuinely care for him.
Everyone Currently Affiliated With Talon in As of Overwatch Season 1: Reign of Talon

During the remainder of the comic/story time, it was showcased that although Talon have lost some key players, they are in so way short of agents. In reality, it seems that the organization has actually gained many more alliances than it has lost, thanks to Vendetta’s rapid efforts in establishing partnerships and deals with key players around the globe.
Here is a complete list of every main associate known to Talon, as of the Vengeance Comes story:
Marzia Bartalotti / Vendetta – Leader

- Vendetta is the new leader of Talon, after taking Doomfist’s power/role by force. She has begun a new ruthless reign, is actively invading her targets, and establishing a network of powerful and dangerous alliances across the globe.
Moira O’Deorain

In a shocker to nobody at all, the terrifying Moira remains loyal to Talon, and well, anything that enables the continuation of her experiments, it seems. However, she is now in a bit of a pickle, so to speak, as she only has a handful of ‘successful’ projects, and two of them (Reaper and Widow) have left the organization.
Maximilien

- A wealthy Omnic who has been a long-time member of the inner council. He is responsible for a large part of the funding for many of Talon’s operations.
Sanjay Korpol

- A VIshkar Corporation official who is also secretly in ties with Talon. Tends to act as a representative of Vishkar at the inner council.
Mauga

- Mauga remains a loyal agent to Talon. As of Vendetta’s latest operations, he will be heading out to visit Junker Town in hopes of establishing an alliance or partnership with Junker Queen and her people.
Sigma

- Nothing has been seen regarding Sigma yet, so it can be presumed that Talon are still keeping him closed up and under their ‘care’. In reality he just remains their poor mistreated weapon of destruction, though, so here’s hoping he gets broken out soon! (I’m counting on you, Sombra!)
Freja

- We learnt a while back that ex-Overwatch agent-turned-bounty-hunter, Freja, accepted a deal from Maximilien to hunt down her fellow ex-Overwatch comrade, Emre. Well, Freja has returned with Emre by her side and has agreed to join Talon as an associate.
- However, Freja appears to look troubled by this decision in her panels, leading to a possible theory that she is sticking around in fear of Emre’s well-being, as he has described his brain as if it is at war with himself, following the years of absence and cybernetic enhancements.
Emre

- Emre has reached Talon HQ and appears to be ready to take on operations as their latest enhanced super soldier. Freja, in particular, seems to show concern with the drastic changes Emre has undergone since they last parted ways, so it seems that he may be shaping up to be one of their weapons, much like Sigma, Reaper, and Widowmaker all fell into.
Domina

- Domina is the Vice President of Vishkar Corp, and one of Vendetta’s latest alliances. Though she is a stealth/shadow alliance, agreeing that she will take all credit for their victories, but Vendetta shall take full blame should anything go wrong. Domina can offer Vendetta powerful shielding technologies from Vishkar, which Vendetta very much has her eye on. We can only assume the chaos she can bring with them.
Ashe & the Deadlock Gang

- This one is a bit more of a surprise, as Ashe had seemed full of independence with her gang after being burned by Cassidy a while back. This is certainly a very interesting new alliance, though, as the comic reveals that Talon and Deadlock have wasted no time in starting to execute plans. Perhaps we will start to see Ashe reach new heights as a villain with this powerful new contact.
The Hashimoto

- Talon is working closely with the Hashimoto in Japan, sending them supporting soldier reinforcements. Furthermore, a new villain-in-disguise has entered the Kanezaka picture in the form of Mizuki, who has been sent to infiltrate Kiriko’s Yokai vigilante group on behalf of the Hashimoto (and by extension, likely on behalf of Talon)
Junker Queen & the Junkers

- As seen in the comic panel where Vendetta instructs Mauga to visit Junker Town, it hints that an alliance with JQ and the Junkers is on the way. While not confirmed yet, Vendetta seemed adamant that they needed to establish that link and that Mauga was the perfect fit for the job. To say the least, it’s pretty much a given that the Junkers will join the Deadlock Gang as one of Talon’s extended allies around the globe.
