Overwatch 2 is beginning to lead into past marketing approaches when it comes to keeping the community up to date, kicking off 2026 by restarting the Overwatch Spotlight announcement series.
The February 4 Spotlight has kicked off with an epic opening animated scene – Vendetta arrives to confront Doomfist for a showdown. By the end of this scene, one thing is clear: Vendetta is taking over as Talon’s leader, and the organization is entering a new era.
Overwatch 2’s Vendetta Has Removed Doomfist From Talon and is Taking Over
The short begins following the death of Vendetta’s father, who had been the previous leader of Talon before Doomfist took over. She’s seen mourning him, and harnessing hatred for what was taken from her and her family.
Following a ten year time skip, Talon HQ can be seen discussing the new threat of Vendetta – who has gone from being a ‘nobody’ to being the fearsome gladiator we know in the game.
Talon identifies her as a threat to their organization, and they are discussing how to handle this issue. All important faces are there – Sombra, Reaper, Widowmaker, Maximillion…..and even Vendetta. She arrives right in the middle of this meeting, and has one goal: to confront Doomfist.
She takes Doomfist on in battle, and after taking a few particularly brutal hits, Vendetta is able to use, seemingly, her hatred and, well, vengeance as enough to get her to turn the tables.
She makes a point of stating how her family gave everything for Talon, just to have it taken from them. And that is now what she intends to do with Doomfist. In a powerful move, she completely severs the gauntlet that well…makes him ‘Doomfist’, so to speak.
This is an absolutely pivotal moment for Talon. It is right here that Vendetta wins this battle, and right when Doomfist calls her a disappointment, and weak for hesitating on the kill shot. Vendetta, however, simply scoffs and throws Doomfist out the window, plummeting down below.
Considering he doesn’t have the power of the gauntlet, and that’s quite the drop, it can now be presumed that in Overwatch lore, Doomfist is dead – or at the very least, has now been pushed out of power completely by Vendetta.
Following Doomfist’s plummet, Vendetta states “No more mistakes. No more Weakness. I will lead us out of the shadows. To seize what should have always been ours. And the world will kneel.”
It certainly seems like she’s taking over Talon big time, and she’s not messing around. Due to the remainder of the OW Spotlight, we already know that following these events, Talon has launched an attack on Overwatch headquarters.
It’s almost certainly Vendetta behind these acts, meaning Talon may just be shaping up to be bigger and more frightening than ever.
