Harry Styles returns to music after a nearly four-year hiatus with none other than the buzzy dance track‘ Aperture.’ The song serves as the lead single of Styles’ upcoming album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. The song, which is No. 1 on the Global Spotify Chart, is eyeing a No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100.
Don’t let the title of Styles’ fourth album fool you. If you’re looking for authentic boogie-down disco, you’ll be sorely disappointed. At least with this first single, but who’s to say what the Englishman has in store? For‘ Aperture’ disco is an obvious influence but it’s more about the emotional response the genre elicits rather than a melodic formula to replicate.
The production on ‘ Aperture’ is what you get when you convert a laser light show into sound waves. The instrumental’s pulsating synths are not a gentle undercurrent but hard-hitting and center stage. What does take a backseat is Styles’ vocals, but not in a negative way.
The understated approach works surprisingly well. As he croons, the ends of his sentences taper off and melt into the instrumental creating a dreamlike effect. The choir works as a melodic safety net and imbues the track with a celebratory feel befitting of the mood.
We never reach bouncing-off-the-walls levels of elation, but it does feel that it is an eventual endpoint. Thanks to Styles’ tone and delivery, the joy expressed doesn’t feel gimmicky. This track is grounded in a real desire to connect.
From a technical standpoint, ‘Aperture’ is not a prime example of disco, nor is it boundary pushing, but it does capture the main thesis of the genre: ecstasy. A dance track that makes you want to dance? Who would’ve thought? And with a runtime of over five minutes, ‘Aperture’ lends itself pretty nicely to extended club mixes.
As it turns out, there’s no need to pick up that Merriam-Webster dictionary when Styles is willing to give us a vocabulary lesson. He sings, “It’s best you know/What you don’t/Aperture lets the light in,” and by doing so tells us that being open to new experiences and human interaction is the foundation of club culture and his genre shift. The Troye Sivan comparisons are mostly lighthearted jokes, but they do reveal a simple truth about why electronic music is having a moment: people want to dance.

Harry Styles 2026 Tour Dates
Harry Styles’ Together, Together tour will span seven cities and consists of 50 shows. The tour will include special support from Robyn, Shania Twain, Fcukers, Jorja Smith, Jamie XX, Fousheé, and Skye Newman. The tour’s most notable feature is a 30 night Madison Square Garden residency.
