Is Gabimaru’s Wife Alive in Hell’s Paradise?

If you’re hopeful for a resolution in short order, you may be stunned to learn that the fate of Yui (her real name having been revealed in chapter 52) isn’t confirmed until near the story’s conclusion.

For a while, it’s thrown into question whether she even existed in the first place, or if she was merely a fabrication planted in Gabimaru’s head by the manipulative Iwagakure Chief. Could it be that all of his fondest memories were just another way to keep him in check, condemned to remain under the thumb of his oppressive leader?

Fear not, as we can pass on the good news that Gabimaru’s wife is indeed still alive. Gabimaru learns this directly from the shinobi Shija, following a bloody confrontation in chapter 108.

Was Shija Telling the Truth About Gabimaru’s Wife in Hell’s Paradise?

Even then, you might remain skeptical — Shija not exactly being the most trustworthy source of information, after all — up until chapter chapter 126, when we finally see her firsthand, living and breathing before our very eyes. Considering that the first season of the anime only covered events roughly up to chapter 44, we’ll have quite a while yet before we see all this play out on-screen.

Whether or not Gabimaru survives the ordeals on Shinsenkyo long enough to successfully reunite with Yui, we will leave as another mystery for now. Gotta keep just a little bit of suspense, right?
