Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of lovable characters that players can meet along their journey. Several of these characters are younger children, meaning they are yet to even scratch the surface of their potential skills and story. What if a hypothetical ‘Baldur’s Gate 4’ game were to be made, set in the future? Well, considering it would likely have a significant time skip, these seven characters would make the ideal candidates for recruitable companions.
Arabella

Arabella is one of the first young players that players will meet on their Baldur’s Gate 3 journey. After getting into trouble with Kagha at Emerald Grove for stealing the Druid’s Idol, players have the opportunity to save Arabella from some pretty severe consequences.
During Act 2, the player can run into Arabella again, who is this time searching for her missing parents, as the Tieflings were ambushed. It also appears that she has begun to manifest Druid-like powers. Apparently, this occurred after she stole the Idol from the Druids.
After learning that Arabella’s parents have been killed, she will stay with you at camp and befriend Withers. Withers encourages her to follow her connection to the Weave to harness her powers, and when you run into her again in Act 3, she tells you this is exactly the path she has chosen.
It would be amazing to see little Arabella all grown up as a companion character in a ‘Baldur’s Gate 4’ game – likely under the Druid Class. It would be really satisfying to see her have learned to harness her powers to their full potential, and she would definitely have a great backstory for how her powers came to be. Plus, she seemed to be quite a clever kiddo, so it would be great to see what a little bit of life experience and wisdom does for her.
Mirkon

Mirkon is a sweet Tiefling youngster that players can encounter on the beach located at Emerald Grove, being lured by Harpies. After killing the Harpies, the sweet and spooked Mirkon will show his gratitude by telling the player to come and visit him at the Dragon’s Lair, the Tiefling kids’ hideout.
Upon going to visit Mirkon and Mol at the hideout, players are given what to many has become one of the most special rewards in the game – a personal story from Mirkon. He talks about how an adventurer came to save him, and how inspired he is by your actions. He even states in this story that he wants to be just like the adventurer, strong, saving people, and never scared again.
What could be more satisfying than potentially seeing Mirkon return in the future game, all grown up, and an adventurer himself? It would be so satisfying to see the scared Tiefling boy grow into a valiant Fighter, or Paladin companion, perhaps. After all, both are known for their ability to jump right into the heat of battle and protect others.
Xan

Remember the Githyanki egg you’re tasked to steal (or save) from the Creche, depending on your decisions? Well, it turns out this Gith egg may just hold some potential for the future.
In the case that players acquire the Githyanki egg and place it in Lae’zel’s inventory for the rest of their playthrough, the egg ends up hatching. This is confirmed via a unique conversation with Lae’zel during the epilogue, where she reveals the egg has hatched into a Gith boy whom she has named Xan, meaning ‘freedom’.
Lae’zel also announces that she will enable Xan to follow whatever path his heart may desire, from becoming a fighter or adventurer, to a musician or poet. Technically, this could open up an opportunity for Xan to appear as a companion if a future Baldur’s Gate 4 title is created. There’s even the flexibility for him to be almost any class due to Lae’zel’s words, so it would certainly be interesting to see, well, a Githyanki Bard, for example.
Mattis

Mattis may be just a young boy, but he already screams Rogue. With his confidence, scrappiness, and creativity, Mattis has set up a makeshift stall in Emerald Grove, helping to make some coin for himself and the rest of the Tiefling kids at the Dragon’s Lair. There’s even some unique dialogue between him and Rogue Tavs, where he will be very much impressed when you show off your sleight of hand skills.
Mattis is a crafty little fellow, so there’s no doubt that he’s only going to learn how to be more clever and cunning as he ages. It would be such a fun addition to see him appear as a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 under the Rogue Class – all confidence and sarcasm, even years later.
Mayrina’s Child

This one is a bit of a different idea, as Mayrina’s child is ultimately a giant question mark. Unborn at the time of rescuing her in Baldur’s Gate 3, the player does have the option to comfort Mayrina over the death of her husband and convince her to step up and become a wonderful mother to her currently unborn baby.
That does leave room for this mystery baby to enter a Baldur’s Gate 4 game under either gender, any name, and any Class. If Mayrina, who seems to be a very sweet young woman, does step up to the plate, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if she goes on to raise a kind but brave soul.
Additionally, as a companion, Mayrina’s child would certainly have an interesting backstory/questline potential. Just imagine being able to use it as an excuse to hunt down Auntie Ethel (or perhaps just Hags in general) in vengeance for the child’s father, and on behalf of mother Mayrina, who was completely manipulated by this creature.
Yenna

Yenna is a chatty young girl whom players first encounter in Rivington, seeking help to find her mother. Through dialogue, it is largely hinted at that Yenna’s mother has been killed, leaving her an orphan.
Yenna will later show up at the player’s camp and ask to stay, alongside her cat companion, Grub. If the player agrees, she will help provide for the group by cooking soup. There’s also potential that she will be targeted by Orin and survive a kidnapping (depending on your choices).
That makes quite an origin story for the girl. It would be nice to see her make an appearance again as a companion in a hypothetical Baldur’s Gate 4. Players would certainly want to hear about the adventures she and Grub got up to over the years, and it would be nice to potentially have a companion who can cook food for Tav and others, just as Yenna did as a child in BG3’s camp.
Vanra

Lastly, we have Vanra, the daughter of Lora, whom players can help to save in Act 3. Poor Vanra has been kidnapped and eaten by Auntie Ethel, who plans to let her stew in her belly until she becomes a hag herself.
After freeing Vanra, the poor girl will be traumatized from what she has experienced and run home to her mother, Lora. Vanra seems like such a frightened, timid little thing that it would be really nice to see her come into her own in her adulthood, perhaps even following in her mother’s footsteps and becoming a Light Cleric. After all, every Baldur’s Gate game needs a dedicated Cleric, which would make Vanra a brilliant option for a recruitable BG4 companion.
