Exploring the planet of Arcadia-7 alone has its charms, but who doesn’t want some company when facing hordes of aliens while attempting to optimize an entire factory?
Here is how to invite friends for co-op in StarRupture, so you don’t have to try colonizing the mildly-hostile planet by yourself.
StarRupture Session Types
There are three session types in StarRupture:

- Single Player
- Friends Only
- Invite Only
As you might imagine, single-player is a solo playthrough, which can be done entirely offline. This is the only session which features the game’s tutorial sequence.
How to Invite Friends For Co-Op

The two other sessions are multiplayer, and both can be use to play co-op with friends. Friends Only allows anyone in your Steam friends list to join the game as long as you (or whoever is the saved game’s host) are playing.
Invite Only functions in much the same way, but only people which you directly invite can join the session. Multiplayer sessions allow for a total of four players, one for each convict class.
At the time of writing, StarRupture isn’t properly balanced for multiplayer sessions, especially when it comes to combat. Thankfully, one of the best aspects of playing StarRupture in co-op with friends is that you can split tasks.
One of you can go farm plants or dive into caves looking for Quartz, another can go hunting for Geo Scanners, a third one can brave abandoned bases, while the last, but certainly not least, keeps your base as efficient as it can be.
Remember that playing in co-op will require the game’s host, essentially the player who created the save file, to always be online for the others to join. The only way to work around this is to use a dedicated server, so you should look into that if your schedules don’t always line-up.
