Since its release in 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been one of the most talked-about RPGs in recent years. The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, and it even went on to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards.
Due to that success, it didn’t take long for players to start wondering if the game would eventually make its way to more platforms. So when the Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025, rumors began circulating that Larian Studios’ hit Dungeons and Dragons RPG could be getting a Switch 2 version.
Unfortunately for fans hoping to play it on Nintendo’s new console, those rumors didn’t turn out to be true.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Nintendo Switch 2 Port is Not Happening

After weeks of speculation, Larian Studios has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 is not headed to the Nintendo Switch 2. The studio addressed the rumors directly, shutting down any expectation that a port was in development or planned behind the scenes.
The clarification came as a letdown for fans who hoped Nintendo’s new hardware might open the door for a portable version of the game. Instead, Larian made it clear that Switch 2 will not be part of Baldur’s Gate 3’s future plans, at least for now.
Larian Wanted It, but it Wasn’t the Studio’s Call to Make

According to Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke, the absence of a Switch 2 version wasn’t due to a lack of interest from Larian. During a Reddit AMA, Vincke explained that the team wanted to bring the game to the platform, but the final decision wasn’t theirs to make.
“We would have loved to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Switch 2, but it wasn’t our decision,” Vincke wrote. While he didn’t clarify who made the call, it likely came from either Nintendo or Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, which controls the Dungeons and Dragons license.
What Larian Is Working on Next

Even without a Switch 2 port, Larian Studios is moving forward with new projects. The studio recently released an upgraded version of Divinity: Original Sin II on Switch 2 and other modern consoles. And during The Game Awards 2025, Larian confirmed it has shifted its focus to a brand-new Divinity title.
Vincke has acknowledged the pressure that comes with following up a game as successful as Baldur’s Gate 3. “There’s more pressure,” Vincke said. “The weight of expectations is high. We’re trying not to think about it and just make our own thing.”
The next Divinity game doesn’t have a release date yet, but for now, Larian’s attention is clearly elsewhere, even as Baldur’s Gate 3 remains one of the defining RPGs of its generation.
