In Heartopia, there are many different hobbies that players can have fun with around town, either solo or with their friends. Fishing is one of these hobby activities, enabling players to catch fish to then sell or place on display in a tank. If you’re wondering how to go fishing in Heartopia, this guide covers everything you’ll need to know.
How to Get a Fishing Rod in Heartopia

Before you are able to go fishing in Heartopia, you will first need to acquire a Fishing Rod. Luckily, this part is relatively simple. After setting up your home and completing your first day with the tutorial, you will soon be introduced to a character named Vanya.
Vanya is a local fishing enthusiast who is here to show you the ropes, even gifting you a Fishing Rod. But first, you need to complete a few tasks before you can get to reeling in some catches for yourself.

Vanya needs you to create a repair kit. This can be done at the workbench that you previously set up during the tutorial. Once you craft this item, return to Vanya, and he will show you how to use a repair kit to fix up broken tools.
Vanya will then gift you the Fishing Rod that he just fixed, and you will be set to go and catch your first three fish as part of his next quest. In the case that your Fishing Rod breaks, you can fix it right back up with a repair kit, which will come in handy for the future.
How to Go Fishing in Heartopia

To go fishing in Heartopia, players will need to approach nearby water sources to check for fish. If you can spot the shadows of a fish swimming around, then there’s something to catch. You can then use your rod to catch the fish by following these steps.
- Hit the Fishing Rod button to cast your line, or hold the button for a more precise cast.
- Wait for the nearby fish to bite
- Once it is hooked on the line, you will need to tap and hold/click and hold the Fishing Rod button to reel it in.
- Keep an eye on the color of your line. Orange means there is some resistance, and red means the line is getting close to snapping. You can give the line more slack by removing your hold on the Fishing Rod button for a few seconds, and then placing it back again.
- By watching the line and timing your button inputs, it should be fairly easy for you to reel the fish all the way in.

However, if there are no fish shadows seen in the water, you will need to search elsewhere, or check back later. For fish that you have managed to reel in, you also have the option of putting them on display as a decoration in your home with a tank.
Tanks can be purchased from Vanya by speaking to him and selecting the ‘Fishing Store’ option.

Fish Tanks will cost Gold and/or Wishing Stars, with several different sizes available for different prices. Here are the different Fishing Tank options Vanya offers in his store:
