If you’re looking to dive into the recently released survival game, StarRupture, you may be wondering if the game has controller support. For many, the controller is their preferred way to play, so this feature can make or break your decision to purchase the game. Here’s everything you need to know about whether StarRupture has controller support or not.
Is There Controller Support in StarRupture?

StarRupture does not have controller support yet, but it is coming. So if you’re struggling with the controls or simply aren’t a fan of playing with a mouse and keyboard, you won’t have to suffer for much longer.
Creepy Jar, the developers behind the game, have already confirmed that controller support is coming sometime during Early Access, so it might be sooner than expected.

On the officially released Early Access Roadmap, Creepy Jar have included controller support as one of the Features being added in Early Access (as opposed to those only coming with the 1.0 release).
Unfortunately, there are no dates or even release windows tied to the Roadmap, so we don’t know for sure when it is coming.
Can You Play StarRupture With A Controller Now?

Thanks to Steam and SteamInput, you can actually play StarRupture with a controller now, if you really want to. SteamInput automatically translates basic inputs like WASD to Left Analog Stick, camera controls to Right Analog Stick, and Mouse 1+Mouse 2 to R2+L2 respectively.
Everything else, though, you’ll have to customize. So yes, it is technically possible to play StarRupture with a controller now, but it isn’t a remotely optimized experience.
There simply aren’t enough buttons on the controller to fit all the keybindings in the game right now, like the map. When official controller support comes to StarRupture, it will likely feature wheel menus to allow for a wide selection of actions.
Does StarRupture Run On Steam Deck?

For those curious, this also means that you can technically play it on your Steam Deck! It will work even better than a normal controller thanks to the Deck’s trackpads, but it comes with a caveat.
StarRupture is an Unreal Engine 5 open world game, so it isn’t too kind to the tiny hardware inside the Steam Deck. A fresh world will run at or around 30 fps, but if you’re expanding your base and filling the screen with complex buildings, expect performance to reach much closer to low 20 fps or even lower.
