In 2023, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora first launched with only a first-person mode. It was clear Ubisoft was going for a Far Cry-style experience, featuring mechanics like conquering enemy outposts, stealth-heavy encounters, crafting systems, and first-person combat. While that approach made sense, it also felt a little strange. After all, you’re playing as a towering, nine-foot-tall Na’vi, and the game rarely lets you actually see your character.
Because of that, the game received mixed reactions at launch. Many players loved the world of Pandora but questioned why such a visually striking character was locked behind a first-person view. For nearly two years, fans repeatedly asked Ubisoft to add a third-person option.
On December 5, 2025, that request was finally answered with Title Update 2.0, which introduced full third-person support alongside several other major changes.
How to Switch Between First Person and Third Person in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Changing camera perspectives is quick and can be done at any time during gameplay. By default, you can switch between first person and third person using the following controls:
- PC: Press the J key
- PS5: Hold the Touchpad
- Xbox Series X/S: Hold the View button
The switch happens instantly, allowing you to move seamlessly between perspectives depending on whether you prefer immersion or situational awareness. You can also adjust the third-person camera. Head to the “Settings” menu, open the “Gameplay” tab, and use the arrows on the “Third Person Field of View” option to adjust how close or wide the camera sits behind your character.
What Third-Person Mode Brings to the Game

Third-person mode makes exploration feel very different. You can finally see your Na’vi character in full, including animations, gear, and movement across Pandora’s environments. Traversal, mounted riding, and combat all feel more cinematic, while first-person mode still offers a tighter, more immersive option for stealth and close-range encounters.
Ubisoft designed both modes to coexist, so players are free to swap back and forth based on preference or situation.
Third-Person Mode Also Added New Game+

Title Update 2.0 didn’t stop at camera changes. The update also introduced New Game+, allowing players to replay the campaign while keeping previously unlocked skills and equipment. But enemies scale accordingly, offering a tougher challenge for returning players.
New Game+ works in both first-person and third-person modes, making it easy to experience the story again from a new angle.
For players who skipped the game due to its first-person-only design, this update significantly changes the experience. And for those returning to Pandora, it finally lets you see the Na’vi hero you’ve been playing as all along.
