Set to come out in the summer of 2026, DC’s Lanterns recently released a small teaser that quickly caught the attention of fans worldwide. And it’s not just diehard fans who saw it and were drawn in, but also casual viewers who may not know much about who exactly the Green Lanterns are.
There is an ever-growing amount of different Lantern Corps, but the main one (and most iconic) will always be the Green Lantern Corps. There is a very long history surrounding these guys, so this guide will just be covering the things you absolutely need to know before you add this show to your watchlist.

Powered by willpower, the Green Lanterns are one of seven main Lantern Corps in the DC Universe and were the first to be introduced. They have the ability to create anything they can think of as a hard light construct made entirely from their willpower. Their rings also allow them to fly, breathe in space, understand any possible language, and perform a multitude of other things.
The Corps was created by the Guardians of the Universe, an ancient alien species that discovered the Emotional Spectrum and found a way to channel it through Power Rings. Based on the planet Oa, the Green Lantern Corps quickly became an intergalactic crime-fighting force. Basically, space cops.

All Green Lanterns are paired in groups of two, with two Green Lanterns protecting each ‘sector’. There are 3600 known sectors that the Corps watches over, meaning they protect almost the entire galaxy.
The reason that only two Green Lanterns are in each sector is due to the fact that their Power Rings are known as some of the most powerful weapons in the universe. Even a single Green Lantern has shown incredible feats of power on their own, so two of them are truly a challenge to go against.

However, Green Lanterns have to uphold a very strict code, and if they don’t, they will be punished in numerous ways depending on the severity of their crime. Some of the most important codes the Green Lantern Corps has to follow are:
- Protecting all life within their given sector.
- Following the orders of the Guardians without question.
- Using no lethal force unless given no other option.

Members of the Green Lantern Corps are chosen in a very special way as well. If one Green Lantern dies, then their ring will leave them and search for another wielder, searching specifically for whoever is nearby with the most willpower.
Only on rare occasions do Power Rings get given without another Green Lantern dying, with one notable exception.
DC’s Lanterns is set to premiere in the summer of 2026. Stick around to see more news about it.
