Minecraft’s Mounts of Mayhem update has recently dropped, and players get to experience new content that further expands the sandbox game, such as new mobs. There’s a new mob to meet in this update, which is the Zombie Horse, and it isn’t as hostile as you’d expect.

The Zombie Horse may seem like a natural ally of undead mobs such as Zombies themselves; however, they’re pretty chill as regular horses are. Plus, you can learn how to tame a Zombie Horse with the help of our guide right here.

Where to Find a Zombie Horse in Minecraft

The Zombie Horse in Minecraft spawns as naturally as undead mobs do. You can find them in the Savanna and Plains biomes as Zombie Horsemen, wherein a Zombie wielding a Spear is riding the Zombie Horse. You won’t be able to spot them spawning as a Zombie Foal, though.

The Zombie Horseman is a generally hostile mob. So, expect both the Zombie and Zombie Horse to attack you. Another way you can find, or rather get a Zombie Horse, is to spawn it yourself with the /summon command.

How to Tame a Zombie Horse

To tame a Zombie Horse, you must first take down its Zombie rider. In preparation, have some Red Mushrooms on hand since this will allow you to tame your Zombie Horse. Kill the Zombie rider with your weapon. If you decide to use a Bow and Arrow, you might hit the Zombie Horse, damaging and eventually killing it before the Zombie rider.

Once you’ve killed the Zombie rider, you can then approach the Zombie Horse. It becomes passive without a rider, so you can freely go near it without any issue.

Then, by using the secondary action button (in Minecraft Java Edition’s case, it’s the right-click mouse button), you can feed the horse with your Red Mushrooms. This will heal its health.

Afterwards, you can get on the horse by right-clicking on it. It takes a few tries, but you’ll eventually see an animation of hearts appearing, indicating that you’ve tamed your Zombie Horse.

How to Ride a Zombie Horse

Now that you’ve learned how to tame a Zombie Horse, you can then ride it. You’ll be needing a Saddle for this, which is easily craftable with 3 Leather and 1 Iron Ingot.

With the Saddle in the main inventory slot, place it on your horse by right-clicking. This will automatically equip the Saddle on the Zombie Horse.

When you’ve done that, you can right-click it again and actually ride and control your Zombie Horse. You can also press the Inventory key (which is E for Minecraft Java Edition) to open up the Zombie Horse inventory interface and add Horse Armor to it, too.

Keep in mind, however, that Zombie Horses can burn and take damage when exposed to the sun. This is where Horse Armor becomes essential to protect your Zombie Horse from dying, and so you can ride with it during the day.
