With a massive trailer debut just earlier in The Game Awards 2025, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a surprising new entry to the brand’s game franchise. It will be led by Casey Hudson, former director of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy.
A New Setting for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic

Developed by Arcanaut Studios and Lucasfilm Games, this new chapter to the Star Wars games franchise is a new single-player story-driven action RPG. The game is said to be a “spiritual successor” to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
There is still little detail to the game’s premise, but fans can expect that Fate of the Old Republic will introduce new characters for an all-new story in the world of Star Wars. In terms of gameplay, this project will have more choice-driven mechanics while still maintaining its RPG core. At present, the game is still in early development stages.

While there’s not much to play around with the trailer’s details, viewers do get some context of the characters involved. It’s assumed that a female Jedi will be leading this story, alongside a Droid and possibly a Quarren.

Arcanaut Studios’ website also gives a brief synopsis of the game:
“The fate of the galaxy is in your hands in a narrative-driven action RPG where you step into the role of a Force user on a journey through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth.
Blending innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic immerses you in an unforgettable experience where every decision deepens your journey toward light or darkness.”
