The rumors are finally put to rest as it was announced and officially confirmed with a new Resident Evil Requiem trailer at The Game Awards 2025 that the iconic Leon S. Kennedy will be coming back as a playable character. Leon will be sharing the dual-protagonist role with FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft.
What’s to come for Resident Evil Requiem?

Being the ninth game in the Resident Evil survival horror game series, Resident Evil Requiem features a new main character, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, who’s tasked to investigate a series of mysterious deaths at a hotel, the same place where her mother was murdered eight years prior.
While working on the investigation, word gets out that a police officer has gone missing at the hotel, leading to veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy being dispatched to the case.

In the trailer, players are introduced once more to Grace Ashcroft, entering a room and meeting the game’s main antagonist, former doctor and researcher Dr. Victor Gideon. He hints that Grace is the key to “freeing” the “Elpis Project” connected to the Sterilization Strategy.

Afterwards, the trailer flashes to a police crime scene, hinting at an agent to be tapped to help with the case. Leon then finally makes his entrance by saving Grace from an attack, showing his signature shooting and fighting skills against the different monsters and creatures in the game.

As Grace and Leon’s paths converge, they must face their pasts and uncover the mysteries behind the Raccoon City Incident that has changed the world.
Release Date and Pre-Orders

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
Pre-orders are also now open on the official Resident Evil website, with Standard and Deluxe Editions available. These include a digital or physical version of the game for the Standard Edition. Cosmetics for Leon and Grace’s costumes, screen filters, charms, and weapon skins are included in the Deluxe Edition of Resident Evil Requiem.
