Where to Find a Spear in Minecraft

Before using a Spear, it’s important to first have one so players can familiarize themselves with the weapon. Finding Spears is pretty easy, as they’re found in different Minecraft structures. Copper Spears can be found in Villages, Stone Spears are seen Underwater, Iron Spears can be recovered in Buried Treasure and Villages, while Diamond Spears are spotted in Bastion Remnants and End City Chests.
Another option is to loot Spears from mobs. Some mobs like Zombies, Zombie Horsemen, Piglins, and Husks can spawn with Spears. But be careful when going into battle with them, especially during the early game if you aren’t well-equipped or prepared.

How to Craft a Spear in Minecraft

If you aren’t keen on looking for the Spear, you can always craft it. The crafting recipe for a Spear is simple enough and requires basic materials: 2 Sticks and a 1 chosen material (Wood, Stone, Iron Ingot, Copper Ingot, Gold Ingot, Diamond Ingot, or Netherite Ingot). Place the sticks diagonally on the Crafting Table with the chosen material as the top part of the Spear.
How to Use a Spear in Minecraft
As a unique weapon, the Spear changes up Minecraft’s weapon roster as it offers two different attacks players can use:
Jab Attack

The first is the Jab Attack, which is done by using the primary action button in Minecraft, which is the Left-Click Mouse Button for PC. This attack deals low damage alongside a Knockback effect. Additionally, this attack also has a cooldown between two attacks.
When using this attack, keep in mind that a Spear’s effectiveness is dependent on the material the Spear is made of. For example, you might have a Wooden Spear, and it has the fastest cooldown between attacks, but does little damage. However, the Netherite Spear is the opposite, doing the most damage but with the slowest cooldown.
Charge Attack

Then we have the Charge Attack, which is done by holding the secondary action button. In this case, it would be the Right-Click Mouse Button. Similar to the Jab Attack, the damage dealt is also based on the Spear’s material.
Alongside that, the material type, the Charge Attack also takes into consideration the player’s view angle and the velocity of both the player and their target. There are three stages of the Charge Attack:
Engaged

Here, the Spear in a handheld position can do some damage, knock back enemies, and dismount mounted enemies.
Tired

The Tired stage shows your Spear rotating to a vertical position, and it begins shaking. While you can still deal damage and knock back enemies, you won’t be able to dismount them anymore.
Disengaged

Then, for the last stage, the Spear is lowered and positioned downwards. Players can only deal damage, but knocking back or dismounting enemies isn’t possible.
Tips for Using the Spear

You can alternate between using the Jab Attack and Charge Attack when either attack is on a cooldown. With this method, your attack rate and damage output are doubled.
Be careful when battling Spear-wielding mobs such as Zombies, Zombie Horsemen, Piglins, and Husks, as they can also charge at you during battle.
