In an interview with Phrasemaker, South Scrimshaw creator Nathan O. Marsh said the anticipated second chapter of his hand-painted visual novel is targeting a late December release, or January “at the latest.”
Marsh, who builds the project almost entirely solo, cited an intensive illustration process and rewrites as reasons for the delay. “There’s been a mountain of art to get through,” he said. “But there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
The first installment, released in 2023, earned attention for its documentary-style narration and intricate watercolor art depicting alien marine life. Part Two continues the story and will launch free-to-play on Itch.io and Steam this winter.
Part One can be played for free on GOG, Itch.io, and Steam.
