Melancholy shaken, not stirred?

In true spy fashion, Reddit has connected the dots between a ASCAP filing by Lana Del Rey and the upcoming James Bond game. Yesterday, user ConversationDue8475 noticed that Lana Del Rey has quietly registered a new song with ASCAP titled First Light.

Coincidence? We’ll havbe to wait and see. As Bond says in Goldfinger “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action“.

That said, the fact that the last Bond film had the similarly smokey tones of Billie Eilish behind its theme does make a strong case for Lana being the next bond theme singer.

Lana was snubbed for Spectre

If it turns out Del Rey is behind the new Bond theme, it’d be poetic justice. She famously wrote a song intended for Spectre—which was rejected in favor of Sam Smith’s Writing’s On the Wall. Her track, 24, eventually appeared on her 2015 album Honeymoon, a glittering relic of the Bond song that almost was.

It’s been nearly a decade since then, and Del Rey’s persona has only grown more cinematic. Between her Americana torch songs and her slow-motion heartbreak, she’s basically been auditioning for Bond’s end credits since Born to Die.

Lana Del Rey with a Walther PPK?

Whether this new song actually lands in First Light or not, the pairing makes good, clean sense. IO Interactive’s game promises a “younger, reckless Bond”, which is very Lana. And if it turns out to be pure chance, it’ll be good advertising for Lana.

A collab like this will likely be announced in the lead up to the game’s release. 007: First Light launches March 27, 2026 , so expect news sometime in the next few months?
