Pokemon Legends: Z-A offers smaller side missions for Trainers to complete in addition to the main story missions. Doing so is a valuable use of your time between capturing Pokemon and participating in the Z-A Royale, as you can gain extra money and reward items.
Side Quest 002 – A Use for an Evolution Stone is one of three initial side missions that you will first unlock. However, as it is also tied in with the main story mission progressions, you will want to complete this side mission as soon as possible.

How to Complete Side Mission 002 – A Use for an Evolution Stone! In Pokemon Legends: Z-A
To begin Side Mission 002 – A Use for an Evolution Stone! Players will need to head on over to the Rouge Sector of Lumiose City. Now, they will need to visit the Passage du Palais shopping arcade near the very top side of the sector, next to the Rouge Pokemon Center.
Once inside the shopping center, you should be able to find Tracie standing outside the Le Passe-temps clothing store. A map screenshot has been included below to help you pinpoint the exact side mission 002 location.
Speak to Tracie to begin the side mission, and she will reveal her problem; she has acquired a Thunder Stone but has no Pokemon to evolve it with, and is therefore seeking a Pikachu.
Tracie will ask you to obtain a Pikachu and trade it to her in exchange for her Heracross. If you already have previously obtained a Pikachu that you don’t mind permanently getting rid of, then you’re already mostly done with the mission!
Where to Find & Catch Pikachu in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
If you need to find a Pikachu to trade to her, then you are in luck! Pikachu can be found in abundance at Wild Zone 3, which is just a short travel South from the Passage du Palais shopping arcade. Once here, you will need to encounter and capture a Pikachu, so make sure you bring enough Poke Balls to get the job done.
How to Trade Pikachu to Tracie
Return to Passage du Palais and speak to Tracie again. She will now prompt you to pick out the Pikachu for trade. Select the Pikachu from your party or storage boxes in the menu, and then confirm this selection to begin the trade process.
Once the trade animation has been completed, you will receive Tracie’s old Heracross, which is nicknamed Bois. This is actually a very valuable trade, as Heracross is a fairly solid battler, meaning it has a lot of potential to help you out in Battle Zones/the Z-A Royale. Additionally, Pokemon received in trades gain EXP faster than Pokemon you captured, so this is a nice bonus.
Now that Bois is safe and sound in your possession, Tracie will now use her Thunder Stone to prompt Pikachu’s evolution into Raichu.
After the cutscene has finished playing out, the side mission will wrap up, and you will now be able to claim your rewards (plus test Bois the Heracross out in battle!). The rewards summary for the A Use For an Evolution Stone mission has been included below.
