Sumi-e painting isn’t about sharpening your blade. It’s about sharpening your focus. In Ghost of Yotei, you’ll find scattered painting spots where your character slows down, sits on a tatami mat, and recreates the surrounding landscape in black ink. It’s meditative, it’s pretty, and yes—there are rewards waiting at the end of each sketch. Just don’t expect stat boosts. These are all about cosmetics.
Here’s where you’ll find every Sumi-e painting spot in the opening region of Yotei Grasslands.
How Sumi-e Painting Works

Walk up to the tatami mat, pick up the brush, and trace the lines using the DualSense touchpad. Finish the work, and you’ll unlock a piece of headgear. They’re vanity items only—think headbands and hats that won’t buff your stats but will freshen up your look.
