Armor in Ghost of Yotei is more than a fashion statement. Each chestpiece brings unique perks—damage resistances, combat buffs, even utility effects—that can shift the way you approach duels and skirmishes. Helmets and masks? Purely cosmetic. If you want stat boosts, you’re hunting for chest armor only.
Here’s where to find every set we’ve tracked down so far, starting with Yotei Grasslands. Minor spoilers ahead.
What Counts as Armor

This list covers chest armor only, since that’s where the meaningful bonuses are. Headgear, like the pieces unlocked through Sumi-e painting, won’t affect gameplay. And charms we’ve covered in a separate guide here:
All Known Armor Sets
Onryo Armor

Where: Your starting armor, equipped from the very beginning.
Effect: A balanced set that offers light protection and introduces you to the game’s armor mechanics.
Snake Armor

Where: Included with the Digital Deluxe Edition. This is the same look sported by the Snake member of the Yotei Six.
Effect: Cosmetic variation with minor stat tweaks.
Taro’s Armor

Where: Found by helping Taro, a wandering vendor in Yotei Grasslands. Aid him during an encounter, and he’ll gift you his armor.
Bonus: Once rescued, Taro sets up as a recurring merchant. From the Wolf Pack menu, you can call his camp to buy supplies, charms, and accessories.
Bounty Master Armor

Where: Earned after defeating Soma the Condemned, a cursed outlaw tied to the bounty system.
How to unlock:
- Complete all bounties at the Old Inn with Kojiro, the Bounty Broker.
- This leads to a new Shamisen Song and a duel with Soma near Lake Jozan.
- Win the fight to claim the armor.
Mercenary Attire

Where: Obtained during the main questline in Ishigaki Plain. As part of “Belly of the Beast,” Atsu disguises himself in mercenary garb to infiltrate a fortress.
Effect: Utility-focused, tied to progression through the campaign.
Armour of the Undying, Spider Lily, Dragonfly, and Robes for Sitturaynu Armours

Dragonfly Armor
Where: Complete Daijiro’s quest in Tokachi Range.
Effect: Time your bow shots to empower arrows, increase reload speed, and gain Concentration on successful hits.
Armor of the Undying
Where: Complete the “Undying Samurai” Myth in Ishikari Plain.
Effect: Boosts Perfect Parries/Dodges, restores health on staggers, and powers Focus Attacks — but only when using the correct weapon type.
Spider Lily Armor
Where: Found in the Abandoned Tominaga Estate, Tokachi Range.
Effect: Emphasizes stagger damage, throwable weapon drops, and splash stagger effects on enemies.
Robes for Sitturaynu
Where: Earned through the “Heart of an Ainu” quest in Nayoro Wilds.
Effect: Fireflies, birds, and vibrations guide you to altars, collectibles, and Shamisen songs.
Crimson Kimono, Nine Tail, Fundoshi, and Ginji’s Guard Armours

Crimson Kimono
Where: Complete the firefly-guided quest in Teshio Ridge, tied to the Sun-Painted Trees.
Effect: Stealth-focused, enabling chained Kunai assassinations and extended Kusarigama reach.
Nine Tail Armor
Where: Unlocked after hunting the Kitsune in Teshio Ridge.
Effect: Enhances stealth by boosting Quickfire weapons, reducing detection, and restoring ammo after assassinations.
Fundoshi
Where: Soak in all 16 Hot Springs across Ezo.
Effect: Running and sprinting are completely silent, but frostbite lowers max health. A joke set with real stealth utility.
Ginji’s Guard Armor
Where: Late-game reward in Oshima Coast after helping Ginji near Matsumae Castle.
Effect: Defensive against firearms — reduces bullet damage, improves reload speed, and blocks projectiles while generating Spirit.
Wrapping Up
Collecting all twelve sets earns the For All Occasions trophy. While the campaign hands out a few by default, the most powerful and unusual armors are hidden in side quests, Myths, and exploration challenges.
If you’re chasing more cosmetics, Sumi-e paintings unlock unique headgear, while charms and weapons add further customization to your build.
