Sony could be preparing to roll out the next iteration of its PlayStation controller, with new reports pointing to a DualSense V3 set to arrive this November — complete with a long-requested feature: a removable battery.

Poland Is Leaking

Polish outlet PPE.pl published details from a source known as Graczdari, who has previously leaked accurate information about titles like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation. According to the report, Sony is readying a new PS5 Pro model that is slightly more energy-efficient than the current Pro. Alongside it, the company plans to launch the DualSense V3, which will not only replace the standard controllers on store shelves but also be bundled with the upgraded console.

The standout claim: the new controller will introduce a removable battery, a major shift from the sealed design that has defined the DualSense since its launch.

Why a Removable Battery Matters

It won’t look like this, don’t worry.

Of course, on the money side, this allows Sony to sell more accessories, but it’s a win for consumers too. Instead of buying a second controller to switch during play, or to play tethered, you can buy a battery and switch in seconds. It’s a piece of tech that Xbox has been enjoying for years, so the only surprise is how long it’s taken Sony to adopt it.

Confusion Over “V2” vs. “V3”

Technically, there are five different versions of the PS5 Dualsense controller. That said, they all tout relatively similar specs, with the V3 being the first big difference.

Earlier this year, a listing at Best Buy Canada briefly advertised a so-called DualSense V2, touting up to 12 hours of battery life. That listing was pulled, but it sparked speculation that Sony had an incremental update in the works.

The PPE.pl report suggests Sony may be skipping the “V2” label publicly and jumping straight to V3 for its new model. Whether this reflects an actual hardware distinction or a branding choice is unclear, but the timing, tied to a PS5 Pro launch, adds weight to the November rumor.

With the PS5 Pro rumoured to release at the same time, it makes sense that the better controllers would be included. Effectively phasing out the original PS5 Dualsenses, that kind of transition echoes the shift from the original DualShock 3 to the Sixaxis back in the PlayStation 3 era, when Sony used hardware refreshes to recalibrate its lineup.

The Waiting Game

Like all leaks, it’s still very much up in the air how much of this is true or likely. Sony has not officially confirmed the existence of a PS5 Pro or a DualSense V3. With November fast approaching, the clock is ticking on whether the company will make an announcement in the coming weeks.

Until then, fans will be watching closely for regulatory filings, retail leaks, or a surprise reveal on the PlayStation Blog.
