Update: The crossover has been released.

Edmund McMillen, creator of The Binding of Isaac, has officially confirmed via TikTok that the game is crossing over with Fortnite. The announcement follows previous leaks by Shiina.

Isaac Items Coming to Fortnite

Perhaps the most well-known Fortnite leaker, Shiina, has also confirmed which items will be released ahead of tomorrow’s announcement. Instead of a skin, Isaac will be a backbling like the Fortnite pet backblings, reacting to your actions in-game. Currently, the pickaxe is unknown, being either Mom’s Knife or Wire Coat Hanger. Of the two, Mom’s Knife is more likely as the coat hanger is a somewhat disturbing reference to abortion (though of course, Mom’s Knife isn’t much better in the context of the game).

Update: Mom’s Knife is in the game, along with the Duke of Flies as a emote and Isaac as a backbling:

What This Means for Fortnite’s Future

One Battle After Another is getting a Creative Map made for Fortnite too (but independent of Epic).

What’s interesting about the Isaac crossover is the fact that Fortnite is willing to go niche, surreal and macabre with this crossover. Of course, we haven’t seen the items yet and they may be watered down, but it opens up exciting new possibilities for Fortnite (imagine a Fear & Hunger crossover, that’d really be a surprise).

Epic and McMillen have yet to announce the precise release date, but with the teaser due tomorrow, we’ll know soon enough.
