Along with the release of a gorgeously symphonic new single, Snarky Puppy has officially announced Somni, their new album with the Netherlands’ Metropole Orkest. Set for release on November 21, 2025, Somni is the ensemble’s second orchestral project, following the Grammy®-winning Sylva in 2015.

In League’s Own Words

This is by far the most ambitious project we’ve ever done… and it was one of the smoothest records we’ve ever made,” says Michael League, reflecting on organising the collaboration—“Every individual team did their job with so much care and love… It was encouraging to know that after 22 years of doing what we do, the music is still reaching people.

The Nitty-Gritty of Production

In a press release, Michael League has shared the inspiration for Somni (which is Catalan for “dream”). It was born during a month in rural Japan, where he isolated to explore composition. These sketches evolved into expansive arrangements featuring Snarky Puppy’s rotating powerhouse lineup (now boasting four drummers) alongside the 50-plus members of the Metropole Orkest.

Recording unfolded over three nights in January with six live-recording sessions (two per night) blending the vitality of Snarky Puppy with the orchestral palette of Metropole, conducted by Jules Buckley. Concert-goers were even able to attend and witness the album in its early forms.

According to GroundUP Music: “Somni… involved 74 musicians, 256 lines, 12 cameras, and over 1,000 live audience members”.
