After a long trail of leaks, we can lock in the X-Men couple for Season 5
Long leaked and teased, Rogue & Gambit have just had an official image of the couple released secretly in the Marvel Rivals patch notes. It’s nice to have the couple officially confirmed for Season 5, here’s some of the other clues we’ve had along the way.
From K’un-Lun to Love
Season 4’s theme of K’un-Lun was leaked months about by X0XLeak. At the same time, they leaked Season 5’s theme: “Love and the eternal touch of romance.” So it’s a safe bet that the next character drops will be romantic interests, the question is who?
Along with this, VO leaks have precede character releases, The pivot ties directly into Rogue and Gambit’s decades-spanning relationship in the comics, making them natural fits for the upcoming season.
Clues in the Cards
Early access streamers leaked some of the lore text from Season 5 before Season 4 even released. In a letter to Shou-Lao, the big red dragon starring in Season 4, The Grandmaster declines an invitation to the “Shenloong tournament”.
Talk of The Grandmaster’s Arena may mean it’s the next Season’s location, but more interesting is the postscript. “Play your cards right and they don’t drain every last bit of your lifeforce,”; Blatant allusions to Gambit & Rogue’s powers.
This lore card was likely planned for the end of the season when they usually drop similar teases like this. For example, Phoenix was teased in lore text talking about the heroes needing another “primal force” to fight Knull in Season 3.
Voice Lines Seal the Deal
One of the most telling leaks have always been VO leaks. All previous characters have had them (Here’s Angela’s). But we currently have VO leaks for a handful of characters: Captain Marvel, Hit-Monkey, Deadpool, and even MODOK. Yet none of them fit the theme of love (unless they’re planning on adding Deadpool with Death).
Rogue & Gambit both have a bunch of VO leaks. Black Widow makes reference to Rogue’s engagement ring, while Storm comments on Gambit’s past. If bets were open for the next Marvel Rivals characters, this would be the safest one we’ve ever seen.

Speculating the Roles
With the gap growing between DPS and the roles, Rogue will almost definitely be a Strategist (theories are that she’ll be a life-steal style brawler like Overwatch’s Brigitte). This also means she’ll be released first, like how Angela the Vanguard is first this season.
Gambit, on the other hand, is tougher. With his explosive cards and slim physique, he’s an obvious pick for Duelist. He can’t tank and doesn’t heal. That said, the too-many-Duelists issue is growing, so he could be reworked as a Strategist (though we already have Dagger). In the past, skills and kits have been leaked (like for Blade), but usually it’s something that releases through official channels.
