Original cast member says he’s not involved in Disney’s follow-up to the 2006 hit
Rich Sommer, who played Andy Sachs’ friend Doug in The Devil Wears Prada, has confirmed he will not appear in the film’s upcoming sequel.

The actor addressed his absence in a recent TikTok video, where he responded to fan speculation by stating plainly: “I will not be returning for The Devil Wears Prada 2. Bummer.” Sommer’s role in the original film was small but memorable, part of the core friend group that surrounded Anne Hathaway’s Andy as she navigated her high-pressure job at Runway magazine.
Disney’s Devil Wears Prada 2 was officially confirmed earlier this year and is currently in production in New York. The sequel reunites much of the original creative team, including screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and will bring back Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci in their iconic roles.
Plot details remain largely under wraps, though early reports suggest the story will follow Miranda Priestly (Streep) in a late-career reckoning as Runway faces new industry challenges. Blunt’s character, Emily, now a high-powered executive, is said to play a central role. Hathaway’s Andy is also returning, though her character’s arc in the sequel has not been detailed.

Sommer joins Adrian Grenier—who played Andy’s boyfriend Nate—in confirming his non-involvement. Grenier revealed earlier this year that he had not been approached to reprise his role. Tracie Thoms on the other hand will return as Andy’s friend Lily, as will Tibor Feldman as Irv Ravitz.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set for a May 1, 2026 release.
