Speedos, high-cuts, and a skull where the sun don’t shine
Marvel Rivals, NetEase’s splashy, unhinged team shooter, has never exactly been shy about showing skin. But this summer, the thirst is canon. Following a string of skimpy skins for the likes of Emma Frost, Magik, and Psylocke, the game has now gone full beach episode—with a little help from Marvel Comics itself.
The new Marvel Swimsuit Special: Friends, Foes & Rivals #1, due for tommorow internationally, doubles as a teaser for a new batch of swimsuit skins headed to Marvel Rivals. And they’re just as glorious (and gratuitous) as you’d hope.
Punisher’s Back—and So Is the Skull Speedo
One of the standout looks goes to Frank Castle, who’s showing off the least tactical outfit of his career: a black speedo with a giant skull stamped dead-center across the front. Fans of vintage Marvel cheesecake will recognize it from the 1993 Marvel Swimsuit Special. Back then, it was a tongue-in-cheek gag. Now? It’s going to be fully playable content.
Thor, Loki, and the Tiny Trunks Renaissance
Thor’s new swim look is fairly tame—just a pair of skin-tight shorts that leave little to the imagination. His brother, on the other hand, is clearly leaning into the camp. Loki’s swimsuit is so snug it could double as a trickster’s weapon, and yes, Alligator Loki makes a glorious cameo—curled around the staff like a pool noodle with teeth.
(For the uninitiated: Alligator Loki is a TVA-pruned variant who was banished to the Void for eating a neighbor’s cat. Naturally.)
Luna Snow and Psylocke Are Defying Physics Again
Luna Snow and Psylocke are getting summer looks as well, though they’re not quite as skimpy as you might expect from a game with a history of bold designs. Think high-cut but relatively grounded—more beachwear-chic than fantasy fan service. Stylish, slightly impractical, and clearly designed with that signature Marvel flair, they strike a balance that still plays into the fun without going full swimsuit edition cliché.
Who’s Coming in Wave 2?
In the recent Dev Diary, the next wave has been shown off with Mantis, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Punisher, and another Thing skin (which is a little more tasteful than his Thong skin).
