Tinder has entered its Group Chat Era.
Tinder has launched Double Date, a new feature that allows users to team up with a friend and match with other pairs on the app. The idea is simple: rather than navigating the swiping world alone, you can now bring someone along — and potentially meet two new people at once.

How Double Date Works

The feature is currently available on iOS, Android, and web in select markets. Users can create up to three friend pairings and swipe through other duos in Discovery. Each Double Date profile shows both users side-by-side, and if there’s a match, a group chat opens up between the four people.

From there, things can stay in the group — or move to one-on-one conversations. Users can swipe right on an individual from the other pair to open a private message, offering a bit more flexibility than the name suggests.

Still in Testing, but Free to Use

Double Date is free, but as it’s still being tested, it currently doesn’t support premium features like Boosts or Super Likes. Tinder says the feature has its own customizable settings — you can choose to highlight Double Dates in Discovery, or opt out entirely if solo swiping is more your speed.

Some Ground Rules Apply

Celebrity Double Dates Through the Years

Tinder has emphasized consent and communication as key parts of the experience. Everyone involved must be 18 or older, and Community Guidelines apply to both users in a pair. The app also encourages users to be mindful when discussing anything personal — whether online or if the chat moves offline — and to make sure everyone in the group is comfortable before steering the conversation in a more private or intimate direction.

A Social Twist on the Swipe

Whether it’s to break the ice or to take some pressure off first conversations, Double Date leans into the idea that dating is often easier — and more fun — when it’s not just one-on-one. For now, it’s a test. But it’s the clearest sign yet that Tinder is thinking beyond the solo profile.

As group chats become more common in how we communicate, Double Date might just be Tinder’s next evolution — or at least an interesting experiment in making modern dating a little less isolating.
