Season 3 is looking bombastic — and Phoenix might be rising.

Edited 20/06/2025

In classic Marvel Rivals fashion, the leaks are louder than the trailers. And if you believe dataminer darling Miller Ross, along with some very heavy handed hinting by NetEase, Season 3 is shaping up to be the most glorious season yet. Specifically? All signs point to Jean Grey making a firey debut along with Captain Marvel, or maybe Blade?

“Visually exciting and very bombastic,” Miller said of one of the S3 heroes. “My jaw dropped.”

The Best They’ve Ever Looked? Cue the Phoenix Force.

Correction: Miller has since corrected that only one of the S3 characters will be ‘the best they’ve every looked’, meaning that Captain Marvel’s ground is shaky now that Blade has woken up in-game.

Up until now, theres’ been VO leaks, movesets, even in game mentions of a “primal force” like the phoenix force, but the premier leaker hasn’t said anything specific about Season 3’s character drops until now.

He says they’re ‘the best this char has ever looked’ and that Season 3 has “his favorite looks of the remaining six characters this year.” (which also implies he knows who’s next.)

The other characters with VO leaks that are in the running are Blade, Captain Marvel, Rogue, and Gambit. Blade is running point on this, with his model already in game, and having been teased to death all of Season 1.

NetEase Teases

But there are other teases that it could still be Captain Marvel. It’s delicate, but clever. If the binary star herself were being paired with the Phoenix force user Jean Grey, that could explain this odd pairing between the Binary Fist and Phoenix Knight skins. That or it’s just another random skin drop (not to mention this isn’t the first time that binary has been used as a tech term), but Captain Marvel fans can live in hope.

Costume Chameleons and Clues in the Chaos

Binary & Dark Phoenix

Jean and Carol are costume chameleons. Neither has a single, locked-in silhouette the way Wolverine or Iron Man might. This flexibility opens the door for Rivals to go bold — possibly tapping into deep comic lore or even experimental designs (Carol’s binary form, Jean’s Hellfire Gala looks, etc.).

Add to that the fact that Season 3 will reportedly carry the same amount of content as Season 2, but with “more hype” according to Miller, and it’s clear that NetEase is banking on big names and even bigger looks.

The Trailer Will Gag Us

Literally. Miller closed his hypefest by saying the trailer for Season 3 “will have us gagged,” which is the kind of energy you don’t waste on a lineup of mid-tier C-listers.

Expect splashy powers, soaring flight, and possibly a little bird-shaped fire.

So, What Do We Know?

While nothing is official yet, here’s what’s stacking up:

  • Jean Grey is 99% confirmed.
  • Blade is still on the table, but has competition with Captain Marvel.
  • Double role drops are on the table, with double duelist drops the least likely.
  • Miller knows the rest of the years’ character drops too.
  • Season 3 will be Symbiote themed with Knull as the big bad.
