Jeff the Land Shark lives to heal another day.
After a chorus of complaints from fans about a heavy-handed nerf in the Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 update, developers at NetEase quietly tweaked the numbers — without so much as a wink in the patch notes. The result? A suspiciously softened version of the originally brutal Jeff changes that had players frothing on forums.
Here’s what went down. In the initial Season 2.5 notes, Jeff’s healing power took a dive: his splash heal was slashed from 150 per second to a measly 100, his ability to heal through enemies was axed, and his submerged healing was being cut down to 15 per second from 35. The message was clear — Jeff was getting benched.
But now? Not quite.
Without an official word, several of those nerfs have mysteriously softened. Jeff’s healing can now pass through enemies again (as well as allies), and his splash heal sits at a much less dire 130 per second — still a downgrade, but not a total gutting. Even more curiously, the submerged healing nerf has vanished from the latest version of the patch notes altogether. Coincidence? Fan outrage seems to have done some stealth patching.
One change that did sneak in, however, was an increase in Jeff’s ultimate cost to 4,500 — a detail conveniently left out of the original post. Not exactly the transparency players were hoping for.
It’s a quiet course correction that reads less like balance tuning and more like damage control. Marvel Rivals’ devs may not say it outright, but the message is clear: don’t mess with the shark unless you’re ready to get bit.
