After fifteen years, seven albums, and enough sun-dappled hooks to last a lifetime, Tennis is officially calling it. The indie-pop duo of Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley is wrapping things up with their seventh and final album, Face Down in the Garden, and a farewell tour that reads like a love letter to every stage, club, and fan they’ve encountered since 2009.
To mark the occasion, they’ve released a dreamy, bittersweet live video for “At the Apartment”, the album’s opening track. Performed in a room that feels like a house in mid-move — furniture covered, lighting soft, voices bare — it captures the moment between presence and departure. Joined by longtime collaborators Molly Burch and Beauty Queen’s Katie Iannitello, Moore described the performance simply: “I dreamed up this live video specifically as an excuse to sing with them.”
The track is part of Face Down in the Garden, released via the band’s own label Mutually Detrimental, and is perhaps their most sonically complete and emotionally resolved record to date. It’s filled with intuitive melodies and arrangements that swerve gently away from the obvious — a sound that’s vintage Tennis, yet more grounded than ever. In every way, it feels like an intentional, natural ending.
Earlier this month, Tennis confirmed their indefinite hiatus with the release of “12 Blown Tires,” a song Moore described as “distilling the past 15 years into four minutes of music.” She reflected: “After finishing Face Down in the Garden, it became clear that we had said everything we wanted to say.” The couple — who spent most of their adult lives making music together — will now pursue other creative paths.
But before they go, they’re heading out for one last tour.

Festival Appearance
The tour isn’t just one last ride — it’s a farewell celebration, a parting gift to fans who’ve been there from Cape Dory to Pollen, from DIY beginnings to headlining the Greek Theatre and the O2 Forum.
As if that weren’t enough, on May 16 — the very day the tour kicks off — Tennis will also release Neutral Poetry: First Recordings, Unreleased Demos 2009–2010, a collection of raw, early versions of beloved tracks and a few unearthed songs never before released. Consider it the band’s origin story, told in cassette hiss and youthful charm.
Watch “At the Apartment” (Live at the Apartment) now on YouTube.
Tickets for all tour dates — including the final London show — are available at tennis-music.com.
See them if you can. It’s the last time this will happen.
