Super-powered showdowns are about to get even more fantastic. Marvel Games and NetEase have pulled back the curtain on the next phase of Marvel Rivals, their fast-paced, team-based shooter. Season 1.5, titled Eternal Night Falls, officially launches on February 21 and introduces two members of the Fantastic Four—The Thing and Human Torch—as playable heroes. And that’s not all: a brand-new Central Park map and an updated in-game economy system are also on the way.
The Fantastic Duo Joins the Fight
With Marvel Rivals already boasting an ever-growing roster of Marvel heroes and villains, The Thing and Human Torch bring their own unique abilities and charm to the battlefield.
Human Torch (Duelist)
Johnny Storm, the Fantastic Four’s resident daredevil, is all about turning up the heat. His ability to ignite his entire body makes him a dynamic force, whether he’s burning through Dracula’s minions or soaring across the city in search of Chronovium.
The Thing (Vanguard)
Ben Grimm never asked to be transformed into a rock-covered bruiser, but he’s making the best of it. With New York City plunged into darkness, he’s stepping up as a protector, using his powerhouse strength (and piloting skills) to help his team collect Chronovium and defend his home.
Both heroes will be available when Season 1.5 kicks off, adding even more depth to the game’s strategic, role-based combat.
A Darker Central Park and Tournament Updates
Season 1.5 also brings Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park, a brand-new battleground that reimagines the iconic NYC landmark under eerie, supernatural conditions. Expect destructible environments and plenty of opportunities for chaos.
On the competitive front, the Marvel Rivals Championship (MRC) has been a hit, maxing out its Faction registrations in North America. To keep up with demand, the devs are expanding registration limits and launching the Marvel Rivals Invitational (MRI) at the end of February. These tournaments will continue through March, leading up to a grand championship showdown.
New Redemption System and Balance Updates
Players frustrated with excess Chrono Tokens will be happy to hear about a new redemption system, allowing them to convert their surplus into Units—a welcome quality-of-life change. Additional hero balance tweaks and patch updates are also detailed in the Dev Vision episode.
