Middle-earth marches on. Prime Video has officially confirmed that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is getting a third season, now in pre-production at the show’s new home, Shepperton Studios. Filming kicks off this autumn.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a major time jump is planned for this season:

“Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”

Season three welcomes back directors Charlotte Brändström and Sanaa Hamri, while Stefan Schwartz (The Boys, Luther) joins the fold. Brändström, a veteran of The Witcher and Shōgun, will also step into an executive producer role. Hamri, fresh off directing The Bondsman pilot, continues her creative partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.

Amazon’s biggest series continues to be a massive draw, racking up over 170 million viewers worldwide and breaking Prime Video records. “The Rings of Power continues to captivate audiences,” said Vernon Sanders, head of Amazon MGM Studios. “We’re excited to deepen the stories that shape Middle-earth.”

With its epic scope and lavish production, the show remains a global juggernaut. Seasons one and two both hold Certified Fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, and season two is now Prime Video’s most-watched returning series. Expect even more magic, battles, and lore when season three lands—eventually.
