Captain Marvel

With Season 3 to launch Captain Marvel and Jean Grey, Marvel Rivals will start releasing a character every month after that. Miller Ross has said that 4 characters are left this year, and that he’s seen them so let’s figure out who’s next.

Every Leaked Marvel Rivals Character So Far

Over 20 new characters have been mentioned in the gamefiles, but there is speculation that some of these could be red herrings planted by the NetEase Development team to confuse and surprise fans.

This was debunked by the developers themselves, saying that these files were in fact more like a sketchbook of concepts, trials, and random ideas. Some many still be in the works, while others may have been left on the cutting room floor.

That said, some are all but confirmed, with models, art, and gameplay all ready. So, in order of most likely to least likely, the leaked Marvel Rivals characters are:

Recently, reputable leaker Ross Miller has said that many of these once-leaked characters have since been dropped.

In terms of likelihood, Blade, Gambit, and Rogue are the favourites. They all have tons of file evidence, even VO lines mentioning them (which is one of the last things to happen in production). Fans are speculating that Blade will be a Halloween drop, while the others could come anytime.

Before then, we can expect tease in-game. For example, in the lead up to Season 3, the game has leaked VO lines about Jean Grey and Captain Marvel, along with a tease for Jean Grey’s Phoenix Force to be a ‘primal power to stop Knull’ in the lore leaks.

Rumours/Speculation

Shuri

Shuri is already in the game as a victory animation for the Wakanda level, and this was recently updated to darken her skin.

Though the obvious reason might be to avoid controversy, there is another factor that might mean we’ll see her as a playable character too. She would have to be in the early stages of development, but since they likely used the in-game model only for the victory animation, the update may be due to testing the model as a playable character and finding that it looked wrong with different lighting– therefore, they darkened her skin to make her more like the Shuri we know from the comics and films when played in-game.

Chinese Characters

With NetEase being one of China’s biggest gaming developers, and a deep cut chinese character like Jia Jing on the list, more popular chinese characters like Shang-Chi, Mister Negative, and Aero might be in the works too (though Jubilee seems the most likely at the moment).

Falcon/Sam Wilson Captain America

Though too late to release during the run of the Captain America: Brave New World film, if the character is popular he’ll likely make the cut. This is also paired with the fact the developers mentioned making separate characters for distinct variations of characters, like Spider-Gwen, or Spiderman 2099. And of all of these, Sam Wilson is the biggest at the moment (plus Marvel Rivals is having a bundle promo with the film too).

Galacta

As the mascot of the game, announcer, and general overlord, it’s unlikely she’ll be playable. That said, they already have models, a voice actor, and a PvE mode planned so it wouldn’t be hard for them to find a spot for her.

Conclusion

But, of course, all this speculation is based on in-game files, and NetEase could have been testing things, found that other characters work better, or even completely scrapped characters during production. Does Ultron play too much like Iron Man? Maybe Blade plays too much like Psylocke so they’re redoing his mechanics gameplay as Mister Negative.
