id Software has officially unveiled the newest installment in its renowned DOOM franchise: DOOM®: The Dark Ages. This highly anticipated single-player, first-person shooter will serve as a prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, promising to transport players to a medieval battlefield where they will confront the legions of Hell.
In DOOM: The Dark Ages, players will don the blood-soaked armor of the DOOM Slayer, the ultimate weapon forged by gods and kings to combat demonic forces. The game blends the relentless, brutal combat that DOOM fans cherish with a dark, medieval setting. Players can expect to wield iconic weapons such as the Super Shotgun, alongside new, gruesome tools of destruction like the versatile Shield Saw.
One of the game’s standout features is its introduction of new combat dynamics. Players will not only engage in ground combat but will also have the opportunity to soar through the skies on the back of a Mecha Dragon, adding a thrilling aerial dimension to the battle against Hell’s minions. Additionally, the Atlan mech will allow players to engage in titanic battles against colossal demons, bringing a new scale to the franchise’s trademark action.
DOOM: The Dark Ages promises to delve into the cinematic origins of the DOOM Slayer’s rage, providing fans with a deeper understanding of the character’s backstory and motivations. The game is set to release in 2025 and will be available on Game Pass, Xbox Series X | S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
